After a Two Week Hiatus, We're Back (and With a New Monster Onboard)!

You may have been wondering why it's taken a little longer than usual to get in contact with us over the past couple weeks. We apologize for the delay; as you might have seen in our last blog post, Lia gave her final goodbye to Delicious Monster after she was offered her dream job working in finance. Although we're super bummed to see her go, we couldn't be more proud of her accomplishments! She left us with some pretty large shoes to fill, but thankfully I've got big feet and am totally up for the challenge.

My name is Nadia and I will be handling all of your future support-related issues — i.e. crash reports, lost license inquires, general troubleshooting, and how-to questions — at <support@delicious-monster.com>. I was a technician at The Apple Store before, so I have a fair amount of experience working with Mac OS X and iOS platforms, so you're in good hands (I promise).

During my first week here at Delicious Monster, I've gone through all of the e-mails that piled up in Lia's absence, so you should have heard back from me if you were waiting for a response! If not, please poke me again. I'm really looking forward to hearing from you on the forum and through your e-mails, so please don't be a stranger! I'm just a click and a send away.

Well, it's about time I tell you all the news. Today is my last day answering your e-mails and writing these blog posts. Today is my last day at Delicious Monster.

In the last ten months, I've done so much more than customer support. I've run the forum and of course this blog. I've also dabbled in sales and marketing. If any of you have e-mailed us with a question, crash, bug report, or comment, I'm usually the one who reads and responds.

I've been touched by the huge amount of thank-you e-mails, praise on the forum that's specifically mentioned how helpful I was, and general warmth of the whole Delicious Monster family. Once, an application on my computer wasn't opening so I posted on our company Twitter account asking for help. Within minutes, I had a handful of responses from our users; everyone was so instantly helpful and I knew we had a great community.

I know you're all bummed to see me leaving, but never fear, dear users! Our new support gal, Nadia, is more than capable of handling all of your queries and problems. She'll be taking over in a week or so, so we all thank you in advance for your patience and understanding in the interim.

Anyhow, I've never been very good with goodbyes, so I'll just say take care and I hope you all continue to use and love Delicious Library.

It's 12 o'clock – Do YOU Know Where Your Books Are?

Delicious Library is a great product for people like me, who are borderline-OCD about the way we keep our collections organized. Our software makes it so easy for you to see what you have in your personal library – but what if you want to find the physical item itself? Say you're showing off your library to a friend and he asks to borrow a particular book he sees on the shelf on your screen – how do you find that book in your home? Or maybe you're moving and need to make sure that you know exactly where certain items are. Guess what? We have an easy way to do that.

To use Delicious Library to pack boxes, first create a new shelf and name it after your box (or room in your house or particular shelf, etc.) Next, select the shelf from the list in the left-hand column and drag and drop items onto the shelf as you pack (or set up your room, load up the shelf, etc.)

Once the box is full or you have all the items you want on the shelf, click on one item on the shelf and press ‘Command-A’ to select everything on that shelf. Click on the edit tool (pencil) and look for the 'Location in Building' field in the details panel. Select it and type in the shelf (box) name. Finally, press 'Enter' to save changes and end editing. If you want, you can delete the shelf you just created after this step.

Now if you want to see where a particular item is located (which box it's in, what room it's in, what shelf it's on, etc.) all you have to do is look at the details panel and your answer will be right in the 'Location in Building' field! You can also search by the location name to see which items are in which box/room/shelf. (Of course, you can also just keep the shelf in Delicious Library and use that to track your locations too, but we know that y'all love our cool features as much as we love sharing them!)

Our Bluetooth Scanner

As I said in this post, we know that barcode scanning is one of our coolest features. We also know that a fair amount of you use a handheld scanner for this – but how much do you know about that little tool? And what about the rest of our users, the ones who don't use the Bluetooth device or don't know about it? This post is for all of you.

Plenty of scanners work with Delicious Library 2, but the only one we officially support (and sell!) is the Microvision RoV® Bluetooth Scanner. (Not the USB one!) What makes it so deserving of this status? Well, first of all it's far cheaper compared to other Bluetooth scanners, but still has some great features. It has a memory (off-line mode) which allows it to scan even when it's not within range of your computer and then 'dump' the barcodes when it pairs again. Also, the laser bounces off a chip instead of a rotating mirror – this means that it doesn’t drain its batteries as much as others. Finally, it has fewer moving parts, making it far more reliable. Once you decide to go 'handheld' and start scanning in items, you'll need to pair the scanner with Delicious Library, which is super easy. First make sure it's paired with your computer (go to Bluetooth in System Preferences to set this up.) Next, go to the Delicious Library menu in the menu bar and select 'Enable Bluetooth Scanning'. Finally, just press the button on the scanner one time, and wait a few seconds. It should beep if successful. Then you're ready to go!
